The City of Xela

Last night was a beautiful night. It was just right for a light sweatshirt. Enjoyed dinner and a few drinks a resturant right accross Central Park. Around 9 o´clock I decided to call it a night. It was a pleasant walk back to my place. The streets here are made of stone and are dark so I had to be very careful that I didn´t trip. I got back to my room to rest on my bed that is as hard as a table. This morning around six I was woken up by the sounds and smells of people making and cooking tortillas to sell. I walked out onto my balcony to sit, smell and observe everything that is going on.

I met up with Kathy and we heading to Celes Maya to study. We were done by noon and decided to go to the bank to exchange American money for Guatemala money. It was strange standing in front of the bank door and have a armed man open it for you, it did make me feel safe. After the exchange of money we wondered around a bit and we did a tour of a chocolate store. It was wonderful! We got the history as how the Mayans made it and what it was used for. It was considered the drink of the Gods and was used as currency. Then we had samples. We dipped fruit in it, we had it iced and then the finale we got to drink home-made hot chocolate. It was the best thing that happened to me today. We are off to do some exploring.

Another WOW for me with a balcony you can walk out on to and start your day smelling fresh cooked tortillas. Yumm!
Say HELLO to Kathy and tell her to stop studying and just enjoy the field trips and tours. She can buy CDs and learn Spanish on her flight back to AZ.

Bring back some of that chocolate, it's so fresh there and I can never get the proper stuff here!
